Taylor Swift Goes Straight in Elle Magazine

March 9th, 2010 at 11:27am Under Celebrity News

Country singer Taylor Swift sports an edgier, flat-ironed ‘do in next month’s issue of Elle magazine. I have to say, it’s a real improvement. I had no idea how much better going straight would be. Which, incidentally, are eleven words you’ll never hear come out of Matthew Broderick’s mouth in succession. Not without him dissolving into a fit of giggles and a lot of frantic hand-flapping, anyway.

Cleanse Your Brain of Taylor Swift’s Sissy Mantras

February 22nd, 2010 at 11:58am Under Celebrity News

So I came across this parody of Taylor Swift songs this morning and I think I like it a lot better than anything the actual artist has ever done. After this article came out essentially putting Taylor in her place as a bad role model for young girls (I completely agree), this video showed up on YouTube. The songwriter’s message in this video is that Taylor’s “I’m so broken hearted that the cool guy doesn’t like me because I’m not a whore”-message is not only completely immature, but it’s pathetic.

I grew up listening to Fiona and Alanis and other strong females who would fuck you, drink your blood and then hang your carcass from their front porch and I still need reminders from time to time that I can do bad all by myself. What’s going to happen to a generation of teen girls who grow up thinking that the cheer captain leaves anything to be desired?

Anyway, I think this video makes a nice little point.

John Mayer Must Be Doing Something Right

February 6th, 2010 at 07:01pm Under Celebrity News

According to a source, Mayer hooked up with Taylor Swift when they were both in Nashville on January 24th.

“She was sitting on John’s lap, her arms were around him, and she was talking in his ear. They were acting like teenagers.”

The source claimed that the couple dined at the Cabana restaurant and were joined by their friends. After their dinner reservation, they were spotted leaving the restaurant alone and heading to the Hermitage Hotel.

“Taylor spent the night and enjoyed mid-morning room service before leaving his suite the next day.”

Taylor is a grown woman and she’s free to boink whomever she wants. I just don’t get why it was John Mayer. What is it about that man that lands so many quality ladies in the sack? I just don’t get it.

Kelly Clarkson Doesn’t Want to Hear Your Bullshit

February 4th, 2010 at 12:52pm Under Celebrity News

There’s been a lot of talk this week about how craptacular Taylor Swift’s Grammys performance was and it got to the point where head of her label had to release a statement. Unfortunately, Big Machine Records CEO Scott Borchetta couldn’t get his message across without taking a swipe at other artists.

“This is not American Idol. This is not a competition of getting up and seeing who can sing the highest note. This is about a true artist and writer and communicator. It’s not about that technically perfect performance.”

Mmm mmm mmm. Kelly Clarkson wasn’t going to have any of that. The original American Idol winner took to her blog to put the big wig in his place:

Wow …..Dear Scott Borchetta,

I understand defending your artist obviously because I have done the same in the past for artists I like, including Taylor, so you might see why its upsetting to read you attacking American Idol for producing simply vocalists that hit ‘the high notes’. Thank you for that ‘Captain Obvious’ sense of humor because you know what, we not only hit the high notes, you forgot to mention we generally hit the ‘right’ notes as well.

Every artist has a bad performance or two and that is understandable, but throwing blame will not make the situation at hand any better. I have been criticized left and right for having shaky performances before (and they were shaky) and what my manager or label executives say to me and the public is “I’ll kick butt next time” or “every performance isn’t going to be perfect” ……I bring this up because you should take a lesson from these people and instead of lashing out at other artists (that in your ‘humble’ opinion lack true artistry), you should simply take a breath and realize that sometimes things won’t go according to plan or work out and that’s okay.

Sincerely,

One of those contestants from American Idol who only made it because of her high notes ;)

Very well put and also: TRUE! How many artists throughout the years have gotten crap for a bad performance? Pretty much everyone in any artistic field is criticized for their work at some point. I love that Kelly’s calling this guy out because yes, it’s mad unprofessional to blame your artists’ problems on America’s tastes. If the girl didn’t sing right, she didn’t sing right. Also: I am really over seeing everyone throw themselves on the ground over Taylor Swift. Forget that I don’t really care for her music, when was the last time someone’s had their ass so universally kissed? The girl’s 19. Someone’s got to be mean to her at some point. She’s not a kitten, she’s a human and one in the entertainment industry at that. She will be exposed to a million more Kanyes and bad performances before her time is up, so let’s just let it run its course and stop acting like everything that happens to this girl is some horrible attempt to bully her in to a silent death.

Sneak Peek of Taylor Swift in Valentine’s Day

February 1st, 2010 at 11:50pm Under Celebrity News

I found you guys a little sneak peak of Taylor Swift in Valentine’s Day (which pretty much everyone working in Hollywood is in) and you know what? Her acting’s not offensive. In fact, she’s kinda cute and funny. Also, this clip features a split second or two of Taylor Lautner and mmm mmm, child, I do not hate that. I didn’t expect much from Little Miss Perfect in the acting department, but I can tell she’ll be a source of LOLs when I get dragged to the theater to see this. And she’s wearing short shorts! She really is acting!

The Grammys Were Last Night

February 1st, 2010 at 10:21am Under Celebrity News

Paramore

Hi guys, it’s Sonya today. Did you know that nipples can stick to ice? It’s true. Just ask Abby when she gets back.

So, the Grammys happened last night, and like the dedicated blogger that I am, I didn’t watch them. I don’t really care who gets what, because it’s all a bunch of crap anyway. They never mention my favorite group, Captain Geech and the Shrimp Shack Shooters, so I don’t bother. I am interested in what everyone wore, so here we go:

Taylor Swift’s dress fits kind of weird, I think.

Here Are Your Grammy Dresses and Also My Thoughts on the Grammys

February 1st, 2010 at 01:58am Under Celebrity News

I have to say, this year’s Grammys was the best awards show I’ve seen in a really long time. It reminded me of the VMAs long ago, back when they were a showcase of creative genius and true musical talent and not a platform for Kanye West to embarrass himself annually while the MTV execs cackle with glee over how often this obnoxious, “unplanned” clip is going to be replayed on the nightly news.

The show went smoothly and tastefully. I thought nearly all the performances were mind-blowing — oddly enough, my least favorite was my beloved Taylor Swift’s. I think she just didn’t stand a chance up there compared to some of the most seasoned performers in the world. But she maybe didn’t have to be so flat, either. And, as much as I adore the girl, she probably didn’t deserve album of the year. Like, really, that should have gone to Beyonce or Lady Gaga. Taylor’s great, but that wasn’t the best album released this year. I’m not sure how that happened. I was rooting for Anyone But DMB, so I win regardless.

Here are some more general thoughts:

- Nicole Kidman deserves an honorary mention on the “In Memoriam” section. She looks like she died at least once last year.

- Why were the people in the audience wearing the 3D glasses? Like, Celine Dion was actually singing in front of them.

- I was excited that Beyonce performed that bit from “You Oughtta Know,” but was disappointed that they did that without actually involving Alanis Morrissette. I was also a little disappointed that Beyonce flubbed half the lyrics. Like, seriously, who can’t recite the words to “You Oughtta Know” in their sleep by now? You oughtta know those words, B.

- However, Beyonce Knowles is a phenomenally talented woman. And if you didn’t already know that, she was gonna make damn sure you knew it after tonight. Well-played, B.

- Did anyone else feel like Pink borrowed a little tiny bit from Tori Amos’ “Sugar” during her performance? Or am I making that up? Regardless, the whole thing was genius. GENIUS. It was very much like “HEY I’M PINK AND I’M STILL THE REAL THING, BITCHES.” And I looooved it.

- Hey, remember Norah Jones? No?

Anyway. All the gowns are below. Enjoy. Full list of winners can be found here.

Some Cool People Wore Some Cool Clothes Last Night

January 31st, 2010 at 01:15pm Under Celebrity News

Everyone was at Clive Davis’ pre-Grammy party last night. Everyone! Kelsey Grammer was there and he doesn’t even make music! The cool thing about this party though is that I feel like we got a little taste of what the fashion is going to be like tonight at the Grammys. In my personal opinion, the stars always look best at the Grammys. It’s a much more casual award show and rock stars and musicians are less likely (or more likely, depending on who we’re talking about) to make a huge to-do about their outfits. From these photos, I’m thinking we’re going to see a lot of distressed pieces and sparkles tonight.

Giving Hope to Haiti, One Rendition of “Halo” at a Time

January 23rd, 2010 at 01:55pm Under Celebrity News

Last night, George Clooney cobbled together a phone bank whose average adjusted gross income was higher than Haiti’s combined gross national product in all of the 90’s. The celebrity-manned phone lines and musical performances by Madonna, Beyonce, Justin Timberlake, Taylor Swift, Chris Martin, Bono, Jay-Z, Rihanna and more,  pulled in over $16 Million dollars.

Did any of you dial-a-celeb and phone in a donation? If you missed your chance, you can still contribute by preordering  any of the songs performed last night  on iTunes.

I applaud the stars’ desire to contribute to a good cause, but groaned when Beyonce inserted “Haiti” into her song “Halo.” I can’t stand it when artists insert words from current events willy-nilly into already established hit songs for the purposes of “tribute”. Bastardizing one of your already established hit singles just seems like such a lazy way out. I cringed when Elton John did it with “Candle in the Wind”, and Beyonce sure as shit ain’t no Elton John.

More telethon clips featuring Robert Pattinson and his facial hair, Madonna, JT, Jennifer Hudson, Taylor Swift, and Xtina after the jump.

Editor’s Note: As of this morning, the news services have upgraded the amount of money raised by the telethon to an estimated $57 Million!!

And here’s the premiere of Taylor’s new track, “Today Was a Fairytale,” from the upcoming film Valentine’s Day, where she has a cameo. It’s not my favorite Tay-Tay song ever, but I still love it and I love her lyrics and I love her voice and I think she’s darling and I want to keep her in my pocket forever.

What do you guys think???
